€100m double transfer for Liverpool will prove Michael Edwards is a genius again.
Alongside Edwards, Richard Hughes will be working closely to reinforce one particular department this summer.
They are expected to make midfield reinforcements a major priority during the upcoming summer transfer window as Liverpool continue to face uncertainty surrounding several key players in that department.
One of the most pressing situations involves Curtis Jones, whose long-term future at Liverpool remains unresolved. With the midfielder entering the final year of his current contract and little meaningful progress made in negotiations over an extension, speculation regarding a potential exit has continued to grow.
Liverpool are reluctant to allow the issue to drag on, particularly given Jones’ value as a homegrown player and his importance within the squad rotation. His uncertain situation has increased the need for the club to evaluate both the depth and long-term structure of the midfield ahead of next season.
There are also ongoing concerns surrounding the futures of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, despite both players remaining under contract until 2028.
Although neither midfielder is considered close to leaving, Liverpool are aware of mounting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs and recognise the importance of maintaining stability around key members of the squad.
The two situations are understood to be developing differently, however. Discussions with Szoboszlai are reportedly progressing positively, with growing confidence that an agreement can eventually be reached.
Negotiations involving Mac Allister, by contrast, are believed to have slowed in recent months, leading to some uncertainty over his long-term future at Anfield.
Interest from elsewhere is only adding to the complexity of the situation. Manchester United and Real Madrid are both believed to be monitoring Mac Allister closely, while Real Madrid have also been linked with Szoboszlai.
Not to mention who knows what will happen to Wataru Endo, and potentially Trey Nyoni could also be heading out on loan.
So at the best case scenario, Liverpool are going to have to sign at least two midfielders. But we could easily be looking at a scenario where the Reds sign three - and be close to the territory of the summer of 2023.
Given there are other concerns in the squad that have to be addressed on the wings, Liverpool are going to have to go about their business in a smart and efficient way. It means getting back to doing what Edwards does best.
And it looks like that is going to be the club's strategy.
Because by the looks of it, Liverpool have the chance to sign two midfielders for an incredible €100m double swoop.
Foot Mercato has reported that AS Monaco will be asking for €50m for potential suitors of Lamine Camara. Liverpool have Camara at the top of their midfielder shortlist this summer and have been tracking him for a long time.
He feels like the perfect fit given the intensity that he plays with and the energy he would be able to provide on the pitch. He's the perfect age-profile as well and he's more of what Edwards was known for during his first stint at Liverpool in terms of being a certain price range around the £35m to £45m mark.
Now as we said, Liverpool will want to add at least two midfielders if everything goes as expected in the summer window.
That means, they could sign another one.
And according to Foot Mercato as per GFFN another Liverpool target in Mamadou Sangare is also valued at €50m by his club RC Lens.
The Malina is again only 23-years-old. He is a Red Bull Salzburg academy product and he's got everything to be an elite midfielder as well - playing with the same intensity as Camara.
€100m is around £85.6m, which is an absolute bargain for two players in today's market as exciting and as talented as Sangare and Camara.
It's why this double transfer has a sense of inevitability to it. This is Edwards' footprint and it will be the stuff of dreams for Liverpool fans when he pulls it off.
