Jakub Stolarczyk has been patient for his chance at Leicester City, so reports linking them with Man City's James Trafford won't please the keeper.
Leicester City have had a positive start to the Championship season, but Marti Cifuentes will know that they need to improve if they are to sustain a push for the top two.
As is always the case, the January window will have a huge bearing on the promotion race, and the Foxes will no doubt be looking to strengthen their squad in the New Year.
Even though the window is shut, the recruitment team at Leicester will still be looking at players to ensure that they are ready to act when it opens in a few months.
And, it has been claimed that the Midlands outfit are ready to rival Southampton in pursuit of Man City’s James Trafford - in news that number one Jakub Stolarczyk won’t welcome
The England U21 international only joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Burnley in the summer, and he did start the campaign as number one, but the arrival of Gigi Donnarumma has seen Trafford drop to the bench.
Therefore, a loan move could be on the cards, and any Championship club would surely welcome Trafford after his record-breaking exploits last season, where the Clarets won promotion to the Premier League.
So, if Trafford is available, it’s a no-brainer for Leicester, but that would be a source of frustration for Stolarczyk, who will feel he deserves a chance to establish himself as the main man in between the sticks at the King Power Stadium.
The Polish youth international joined the club as a teenager in 2017, initially linking up with the academy, learning from number one Kasper Schmeichel.
As is often the case for youngsters, Stolarczyk had a few loan spells at Dunfermline, Fleetwood and Hartlepool in a bid to get first-team football, where he showed why he was highly-rated.
Following Mads Hermansen’s sale to West Ham in the summer, along with Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward departing, space opened up in the squad for the first time in years for Stolarczyk to really nail down a place in the XI.
And, that’s exactly what has happened, with the 24-year-old playing every game for Cifuentes so far this season.
A return of three clean sheets in six games shows that Stolarczyk has settled well, but even though he has made some big contributions to recording those shut-outs, there are still areas of his game that he can improve.
That’s to be expected for a relatively inexperienced stopper, and Stolarczyk, who is estimated to be on £10k-a-week, will no doubt benefit from getting a regular run in the team.
But, the link to Trafford shows that the industry can be ruthless, especially at a club like Leicester where there is a demand for immediate success, and a need to reach the Premier League.
Ultimately, there is a lot of football to be played between now and then the January window opens, and whilst Leicester may pursue Trafford regardless of what happens, Stolarczyk will want to use this opportunity to prove that Cifuentes doesn’t need to enter the market.
