Although the summer transfer window is still months away, FC Barcelona are already scouting talent to strengthen their squad for the 2026-27 season. One key area of focus is the defense, where the club is reportedly interested in signing Nobel Mendy, the 21-year-old center-back currently on loan at Rayo Vallecano from Real Betis.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona plans to submit an initial offer of €10 million to secure Mendy’s transfer. The move fits the club’s strategy of targeting young domestic players with high potential while maintaining financial prudence.
Mendy, valued at around €6 million by Transfermarkt, has impressed scouts with his performances in La Liga, scoring 2 goals in 14 appearances and demonstrating composure and physicality beyond his age.
Mendy’s adaptability to the pace of Spanish football, being left-footed, and his versatility across the defensive line make him an attractive option for Hansi Flick’s system.
His ability to dominate aerial duels and pose a threat on set-pieces could add another dimension to Barcelona’s defense, which has struggled under the demands of an advanced backline.
Negotiations could be complicated by Rayo Vallecano’s decision to exercise a preferential clause to acquire 80% of Mendy’s federative rights, giving the Madrid club leverage in discussions.
His contract with Real Betis runs until 2027, meaning that an agreement between all three parties will be essential. Despite these hurdles, Barcelona are confident that their €10 million offer will be competitive enough to bring the promising defender to Catalonia.
Securing Nobel Mendy would reinforce Barcelona’s backline after the departure of Inigo Martinez last summer. The club hopes the young defender will embrace the challenge of wearing the Blaugrana shirt and become a cornerstone of the team’s defensive structure in the coming years.
