Having matched the record of 13 consecutive wins to start a campaign with their 3-0 victory away at Borussia-Park on the weekend, only Köln stood between Bayern and sole ownership of the mark. Under the lights on Wednesday evening, the Bavarians were typically ruthless, sweeping to a 4-1 triumph in Cologne to reach 14 straight wins - surpassing AC Milan’s long-standing benchmark from the early 90s.

A driving force behind Bayern’s blistering start has been their devastating attacking trio. Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and Michael Olise are in irresistible form, with the former already tallying 22 goals in all competitions, while Díaz and Olise have netted eight and seven goals respectively. Across their record-breaking 14-match stretch, Kompany’s men have scored 51 goals and conceded just 10 - a sharper return than Milan’s 45-13 split during their own run.

After the game, Kompany revealed to Sky Sport that he "doesn't really pay that much attention to these records." However, the Belgian also explained the reasons behind Bayern's current success: "The records come when we approach every game with the mentality of wanting to win. That's the first thing. And the second is quality. The lads are fit and you can see a lot of automatic movements. They're hungry and want more! That's helping us right now."

Bayern now set their sights on extending the streak and etching the record even deeper into history, with a Saturday night showdown at home to Bayer Leverkusen next on the agenda.
