Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sell the 27-year-old
Birmingham City winger Emil Hansson is set for a move to Dutch team Rotterdam Excelsior this January.
According to Swedish outlet Expressen, the 27-year-old is set for a permanent departure from St. Andrew’s after going out on loan in the summer.
Hansson joined the Blues in the 2024 summer transfer window in a reported £1.5 million deal from Heracles, and he made 20 appearances in League One as Chris Davies’ side earned promotion with 111 points.
He joined Blackpool on loan, but was recalled at the start of this month after starting three of 17 games for the relegation-threatened Tangerines in League One.
Hansson, reflecting on his summer loan departure, described the situation as "sad", but having failed to prove Blues wrong in the third-tier, a permanent exit this month was always on the cards and he now appears to be edging closer to a move back to the Netherlands.
The forward has a contract with Birmingham until 2027, meaning he is now into the final 18 months of his deal with the Championship side.

A deal has been struck between the two clubs, and the player is now set for an exit from English football just 18 months after arriving at Birmingham.
Barring any unforeseen events, the winger’s time at St. Andrew’s will come to a permanent end, making the move to the Eredivisie.
Hansson has previously played in the Dutch top flight with Heracles, which is where the Midlands outfit signed him from after their relegation to League One.
It has already been a busy start to the winter market for the Blues, who have signed Kai Wagner to the first team squad.
Birmingham have until 2 February to complete any remaining transfer plans, in what could be a hectic few weeks for the Championship club.
Davies’ side are currently 13th in the table after 26 games played, seven points adrift of a play-off place as they target promotion to the Premier League.
Next up for the Midlands outfit is a trip to face Cambridge United in the third round of the FA Cup on 10 January in a 5.45pm kick-off.

It’s clear that Hansson was not part of Davies’ first team plans, especially as he was unable to really earn consistent minutes in League One this season.
So being able to offload him now will free up some space in the squad, and bring in a small boost financially.
Birmingham clearly have a lot of plans to help their promotion ambition, so being able to get the winger off the books is a good start to the month.
