The world of football is a competitive one, and perhaps no club knows that better than FC Barcelona. Over the years, the Catalan giants have always been expected to produce results even when they were riddled with other issues. Even now, despite their financial limitations, Barcelona have huge expectations.

Fortunately, the team has been performing quite well following the introduction of a new management team. Under Hansi Flick this season, many players have managed to flourish and Barcelona as a whole has looked like a much more more complete and strengthened team.

However, despite the many talented and in-form players around him, 17-year-old Pau Cubarsi has revealed the player who he thinks is the best in the world right now in a recent interview, as highlighted by SPORT, and that particular player does not even belong to Barcelona:

“Rodri.”

For the Spanish defender, the Manchester City defensive midfielder is currently the best player in the world. Following a sensational season for both club and country, the Spanish midfielder is considered to be one of the favorites for the upcoming Ballon d’Or. As such, Cubarsi’s statement is hardly a surprising answer to the question he was asked.

At the moment, Rodri is currently sidelined due to an ACL injury he suffered this season and he will likely miss the remainder of the campaign. Unfortunately for Pau Cubarsi and the rest of his Spanish teammates, that would also mean that Rodri would be unavailable for Spain for quite some time as well.

For the likes of other Spanish Barcelona stars and players from various clubs, losing Rodri has been a heavy blow. Learning to deal with what they have beyond the 28-year-old Manchester City star will be difficult, but the coaches for both his club and country will have to figure out the right alternative as soon as possible.

Cubarsi, on the other hand, also talked about several other topics in his recent interview. Beyond just Rodri, he was also asked to name the Barcelona player who is the best in 1v1 situations against the goalkeeper and his answer was quite clear in that case as well.
