Round 10 of the K League 2 season sees the return of the Suwon Derby as Suwon FC and Suwon Samsung Bluewings meet for the first time in three years. Elsewhere, Ansan Greeners look to build on their first home win of the campaign, while Yongin FC aim to carry momentum forward following a breakthrough result led by veteran midfielder Kim Min-woo.
The return of the Suwon Derby
The Suwon Derby returns for the first time in three years. Following Suwon’s relegation in 2023 and Suwon FC’s drop to K League 2 last season, the fixture is back. In the overall head-to-head record, Suwon FC lead with nine wins, one draw and six losses, but this will be the first meeting between the two sides in K League 2.
Suwon FC have seen their form dip in recent weeks. After opening the season with four consecutive wins, they are now without a victory in April, recording two draws and two losses. Their asymmetrical system, alternating between a back three and a back four, has begun to be read by opponents. In attack, Matheus Frizzo's influence has decreased compared to the early part of the season. In Round 9 against Gimpo FC, Suwon FC took the lead through Willyan in the 10th minute but were unable to add a second, eventually conceding an equaliser in a 1-1 draw. Improving attacking creativity and maintaining defensive concentration will be key.
Suwon Bluewings, meanwhile, have shown some inconsistency in performances but have continued to pick up points. In Round 9, they secured a 3-2 win over Busan IPark in a clash at the top of the table, with Reis scoring a late winner. They have looked more composed against high pressure and have been able to gain control in key moments. The use of Kang Hyeon-muk in an asymmetrical role has also provided an additional option.
Now off the mark at home, Ansan Greeners
Ansan Greeners had picked solid results away from home this season, with two wins and one draw in their first eight matches, but had yet to win at home. That changed in Round 9, as they defeated Jeonnam Dragons 2-1 to secure their first home win of the season.
Against Jeonnam, Ansan conceded early from a penalty and went into the break trailing 1-0. In the second half, they put extra men forward to shift the momentum in their favour. Gabriel Lima was central to that change, scoring the equaliser with an effective run in the final third. After gaining a numerical advantage following a red card, Ansan completed the turnaround late in the match, with Kang Dong-hyeon scoring the winner with a left-footed strike. The switch to a two-striker system and a more proactive approach proved decisive.
Ansan travel to Hwaseong in Round 11. Hwaseong are also in good form, unbeaten in their last three matches (two wins and one draw), including a 2-1 win away to Seoul E-Land.
The match will be played on Sunday, May 3rd at 2 PM at Hwaseong Sports Complex.
Veteran presence of Kim Min-woo
Yongin FC secured their first win of the season in Round 9 with a victory over Gimhae FC 2008. Facing a fellow new side, Yongin played on the front foot, with Kim Min-woo at the centre of their positive performance.
Kim started in an attacking midfield role, operating centrally but frequently moving into the left half-space. His movement led to the opening goal in the 17th minute, when his cross from the left was headed in by Suk Hyun-jun. He then scored himself in the 36th minute with a left-footed effort from a corner situation. Early in the second half, he provided another assist with a cross from the left, again finding Suk Hyun-jun.
Kim finished with one goal and two assists, playing a decisive role in the result. He also completed all three of his crosses successfully, highlighting the accuracy of his delivery, and was named Round MVP. This season, Kim continues to show his value as a veteran, contributing with his experience on the pitch and his leadership within the squad.
Yongin face Seongnam in Round 11. Seongnam are currently without a win in their last three matches (one draw and two losses). The match will take place on Sunday, May 3rd at 4:30 PM at Yongin Mireu Stadium.
