On the set of Rothen s’enflamme, Gérard Piqué has already made his pick for the team to beat at the 2026 World Cup.
Yesterday, Gérard Piqué, the FC Barcelona legend, was a guest on Rothen s’enflamme. The former Spanish defender spoke at length about the upcoming edition of the Kings League before turning his attention to the 2026 World Cup on American soil. When asked about the main contenders for the tournament, the Spaniard admitted that the French national team has all the tools to win.
“Honestly, I think if you look at the squads player by player, France is the team with the most talent at this World Cup. They’ve reached the final in the last two editions, they won in 2018, they lost in 2022. On paper, they are the best team, the top national side. But we’ve seen a million times in football that names alone don’t win you trophies. You need to build a team where the players are truly connected, where they get along, understand each other on the pitch, and have worked well tactically both in defense and attack. That’s what makes football so beautiful: you never know what’s going to happen. Even if you’re the favorite on paper, any team can beat you.”, he said.
