Marc Casado’s future at FC Barcelona remains uncertain, with the midfielder still facing the possibility of leaving the club before the summer transfer window closes.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Casado could still leave Barcelona this summer, with further talks expected to take place with his agent, Jorge Mendes, before a final decision is made.

The 22-year-old has received approaches from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia, although there is no indication yet that he has chosen his next destination or committed to leaving Barcelona.

The situation is particularly interesting given Frenkie de Jong’s knee injury. With the Dutchman expected to miss the opening part of the season, keeping Casado would provide Hansi Flick with additional depth in midfield.

However, Barcelona remain open to moving the La Masia graduate on despite De Jong’s absence. Romano’s latest update reinforces the idea that an exit remains firmly on the table.

Casado’s situation is not necessarily straightforward from the player’s perspective. He has always wanted to succeed at Barcelona, but competition for places remains intense, with Pedri, Gavi, Marc Bernal and others competing for midfield roles.

A difficult decision for Barcelona

From Barca’s perspective, there is a balance to strike. Casado is a homegrown player who has already shown that he can contribute at first-team level, and losing him while De Jong is unavailable would reduce Flick’s immediate options.

At the same time, a strong proposal could be difficult for the club to ignore, particularly if Casado is not expected to have a significant role once the midfield is back at full strength.

Much will therefore depend on the offers that arrive and, importantly, on what Casado himself wants. The upcoming discussions with Mendes could provide greater clarity on whether his immediate future remains at the Spotify Camp Nou.

For now, no decision has been made. However, with interest coming from both Europe and Saudi Arabia, Casado is clearly one of the Barcelona players whose situation could become increasingly important as the transfer window progresses.
