FC Barcelona are expected to oversee a significant change in their attack in the upcoming summer transfer window, as Robert Lewandowski is already in the last few months of his current contract, and playing his last few years at the highest level.

As a result, the Catalans are being linked with several players in the market to replace the Pole. According to Fichajes, one such player on whom the Blaugranes have set their sights for this purpose is the Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The Frenchman is going to enter the last year of his contract with the Premier League side at the end of this season, and the Eagles would have to sell him next summer if they are to get anything from his departure, unless he agrees to a renewal.

The arrival of Jørgen Strand Larsen at Crystal Palace is expected to reduce Mateta’s prominence as well.

In fact, he was close to leaving the club in the recently closed winter transfer window for AC Milan, but a failed medical test got in his way.

Jean-Philippe Mateta could prove to be a cheaper alternative to the likes of Julian Alvarez, but for now, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona would make a push for him in the coming months and when he recovers from his knee issues.
