The Chairboys' boss has been sacked after a poor start to 2025-26

It has been a disastrous start to the League One campaign for Wycombe Wanderers, with Mike Dodd paying the ultimate price as a result.

The Chairboys, who were among the third-tier's best performing sides last term before losing to Charlton Athletic in the play-off semi-finals, are still yet to kickstart their season under the 39-year-old who took over the reins from current Luton Town boss, Matt Bloomfield, back in February.

Despite penning a three-and-a-half year deal at Adams Park, the former Sunderland interim boss and Birmingham City academy figure has only won 10 of his 31 games in charge to date, equating to a win percentage of 32% and a points-per-game record of 1.2.

At present, the Buckinghamshire side find themselves in 19th despite a flurry of 16 new signings during Dodds' first transfer window in charge, winning just one of their opening eight league fixtures, with a poor run continuing against then-winless Peterborough United in a 2-1 defeat on Saturday.

As such, Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider reported that Dodds is facing the sack just seven months into his tenure, with that news now being confirmed by the Chairboys.

Now, Football League World have looked at three replacements the Wycombe hierarchy must consider as soon as possible to replace the former Sunderland coach.

Rasmus Bertelsen

In recent months, there has been a Danish 'revolution' taking place in these parts, meaning it wouldn't be a surprise for Blue Ocean Partners to look down this avenue once again.

Rasmus Bertelsen is currently overseeing his second spell in charge of Superliga side, Randers FC, and could now be lured to English football for the first time due to the visions which Wycombe's ownership group have in place.

It wouldn't be a surprise to many if the 41-year-old has remained on the club's radar in recent months, having turned down the opportunity to take over from Bloomfield in the winter, before also being linked with the Queens Park Rangers vacancy in the off-season before Julien Stephan's appointment at Loftus Road.

Bertelsen guided Randers to a fourth-place finish last season and his side are currently eighth in the Danish top-flight after an inconsistent start to the current campaign.

Claus Norgaard

Similarly, it could now be easier for Wycombe to attract Claus Norgaard to the role after he recently departed Premier League side, Brentford.

Norgaard was Thomas Frank's right-hand man for two-and-a-half years at the Gtech Community Stadium after prior roles in charge of Denmark's Under-18's and Superliga side, Sønderjyske, where he oversaw 26 wins in 78 matches between January 2017 and December 2018.

Although Norgaard was clearly one of the brains behind the Bees' dynamic style of play which saw them catch out many sides on the counter-attack and through dynamic wing play, Frank hasn't taken him to his new role in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, leaving the 45-year-old out of work for the time being.

Given the aforementioned Danish connection to Wycombe through players such as Anders Hagelskjaer and Magnus Westergaard, it could help sway Norgaard to the club after his links to the role were quashed in January.

He could easily help the Chairboys emulate the success story in West London which saw the Bees rise from League One mainstays to an established and competitive top-flight side through attractive football and the adoption of the 'moneyball' system.

Luke Williams

Luke Williams is another boss currently waiting for another managerial break, and that could come at Adams Park.

After previously being an assistant to current under-fire Rangers boss, Russell Martin, Williams has since earned his individual stripes at both Notts County and Swansea City, playing in a possession-based manner.

The 44-year-old does somewhat also have a reputation for progressing clubs, having taken the Magpies out of the National League and immediately among one of the most entertaining sides to watch in League Two, prior to his return to South Wales in a full-time managerial capacity after previously being Martin's understudy.

Williams was able to steer the Swans to a 14th-place finish during his first half-season in charge, before recently admitting that he was effectively in a 'no win' situation throughout his tenure due to viewpoints from certain figures within the club.

FLW revealed in March that he had held talks with MK Dons over the vacancy at the League Two club prior to the appointment of Paul Warne, which showcases his eagerness to make a swift return to management no matter the level.
