3 suspensions confirmed after Atlético 2-1 Real Madrid | OneFootball

A trio of sanctions have on Wednesday been announced by the Spanish football authorities, amid the ongoing fallout from this past weekend’s clash between Atlético and Real Madrid.

The first Madrid Derby of the new campaign was of course contested at the Metropolitano on Sunday night, with hosts Atléti having ultimately emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result.

The 90 minutes were packed with predicted drama and controversy, on the part of players, staff and coaches alike.

In the end, Dean Huijsen was the sole player shown a red card, despite Real Madrid having been adamant that both Cristian Romero and Lee Kang-in should have been sent packing from proceedings, too.

Stopper Huijsen, as a result, has on Wednesday been hit with a one-match ban. He will be unavailable to face Villarreal on the far side of the international break.

The suspensions do not end there, though, with COPE reporting:

‘One-match ban for Huijsen, one of Mourinho’s assistants, and Atlético’s goalkeeping coach. They will miss the matches against Villarreal and Alavés, respectively.’
