3 Things Swansea Must Get Right Against Burnley | OneFootball

A flying Swansea welcome Burnley to the Swansea.com Stadium tomorrow, but after a difficult loss to Southampton midweek the Swans will want to get back to winning ways. Winning has almost become second nature to Vitor Matos’ side, having an extraordinary start to the season and being top of the league for a while. The question still remains as to whether they can bounce back from their Gameweek 6 loss, here are 3 things Swansea must get right against Burnley.

Predicted Lineup

Before looking at how Swansea can beat Burnley, here is a potential lineup that Matos could field:

Swansea Lineup (4-2-3-1): Vigoroux, Key, Lissah, Welsh, Tymon, Eustaquio, Tymon, Yeo, Just, Opoku, Vipotnik

Cabango’s recent injury seems a blessing in disguise, allowing Matos to discover how effective that back 4 can be. Just may come in for Eom since the Swans #10 is off to the Korean Games, and Vipotnik will be likely to retain his starting spot after scoring on Tuesday.

Don’t get complacent

Burnley have had a torrid start to the season, picking up 3 points from 6 games and sitting in the relegation zone. Swansea sit at the opposite end in 3rd, but they must not underestimate Burnley or they could have their second league loss of the season. Particular players to watch out for are Chelsea loanee Dastan Satpaev, new huge signing Jamie Vardy and Ugo Raghouber.

Burnley were tipped for promotion this season, and they would only need a half-chance from Swansea to cause some issues. Their squad is still strong despite losing danger-man Zian Flemming to Ipswich and Matos should reinforce that when he speaks to the players pre-match. Losing tomorrow could send the Swans down a slippery slope and they will want to prevent a morale drop at all costs.

Maximise Eustaquio’s Involvement

Stephen Eustaquio joined Swansea off the back of a great World Cup showing in the summer, and he has made an instant impact. Now a fan favourite, he has shown how vital he can be in the middle of the park. He’s the outlet that Swans needed, being the heartbeat of their midfield and a fantastic progressor of play. Making sure he sees as much of the ball as possible will significantly boost Swansea’s efforts going forward.

Eustaquio has already proven to be a great coup, and he could shine even more with Goncalo Franco next to him, who seems ready to be involved to some capacity tomorrow. The Canadian’s ability on the ball and his vision can combine well with Vipotnik’s attacking instinct, something that Swans fans should be excited for this season. Swansea play fast on the break too, and his balls in behind to quick wingers Opoku and Yeo can be a real threat. Burnley need to keep an eye on him.

Stick with their backline

Ben Cabango made his first start back from an injury against Southampton, replacing Josh Key. To be frank, he looked shaky. The Tymon-Welsh-Lissah-Key backline has exceeded expectations when Cabango was unavailable, and Matos should not let sentiment get in the way of winning. Despite being club captain, Cabango should be dropped for the time being, Welsh and Lissah just work too well with each other.

The danger that Tymon and Key possess is also a big point, their attacking threat has been on show this season. You just don’t get the best out of Lissah at right back, and you lose the threat that Key poses going forward. Compromising on that, along with Lissah and Welsh’s symbiotic partnership is not worth it to push Cabango back into the lineup and this showed on Tuesday.
