FLW have looked at the senior players who will be leaving St. Andrew's next summer if nothing changes

The 2026/27 Championship season has started in intriguing fashion for Birmingham City, in what is now Chris Davies' third campaign in charge at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park after being appointed way back in June 2024.

Under Knighthead Capital Management's ambitious ownership, Blues are hoping to return to the Premier League sooner rather than later, with the 'project' often referenced by the ownership group key to luring new recruits to B9 in the transfer market.

However, that isn't to say that all the club's additions in recent memory have been a success, with the two transfer windows in the 2025/26 season bringing mixed results.

As such, spending power was reined in, to an extent, in this part of the West Midlands in the most-recent transfer window, even though eight additions were still made to Davies' squad.

Birmingham have certainly been competitive in the majority of their outings so far this season, especially after being humiliated by Brentford in the EFL Cup last month, whilst Davies recently submitted his 25-man squad for between now and January 2027.

As such, some players may feel they have a point to prove when it comes to earning new contracts in the near future, but there are four players on the club's books who will be departing on June 30th, or in some cases potentially before, unless circumstances change.

James Beadle

The first of said quartet is England youth international, James Beadle, who also spent last season on loan with Birmingham from Premier League outfit, Brighton and Hove Albion.

After previously spending time away from the AMEX Stadium with Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday, the 22-year-old featured 35 times last term after displacing Ryan Allsop, keeping eight clean sheets.

Although his performances certainly divided opinion, Davies opted to reunite with Beadle this summer, again on a loan basis, although based on performances so far, Birmingham's defensive showings can certainly be improved on for the remainder of the season.

Tomoki Iwata

Next up is Tomoki Iwata, who signed a three-year deal after joining from Celtic in August 2024.

The Japanese became an immediate favourite during Birmingham's record-breaking League One season, particularly for his stunning strikes against Wrexham and Newcastle United, but had an intriguing first campaign in the Championship last time out.

Indeed, due to injuries sustained by both Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ethan Laird, the 29-year-old was stationed in his unnatural right-back position for a fair portion of his 45 appearances.

However, he has returned to being a regular fixture in the centre of midfield this campaign to-date.

The third of four players set to leave Birmingham next June is Scott Wright, who arrived from Rangers two years ago in a late-window move.

Despite impressing on occasions in League One, the winger's fortunes haven't been the same since sustaining a serious knee injury at Reading in February 2025.

After returning to fitness, Wright was sent on loan to Dundee FC in January but only made 10 appearances at Dens Park, and due to Blues' own activity, it was expected the 29-year-old would leave St. Andrew's this summer.

And whilst such circumstances didn't occur, Wright will not play a part in the opening months of the season after being omitted from Davies' 25-man squad, adding further jeopardy to his immediate future.

Liam Millar

Rounding off this list is 44-time Canadian international, Liam Millar, who arrived on loan from Hull City on Deadline Day and certainly made a strong impression in the entertaining draw with Wolves on debut.

The 26-year-old had endured mixed fortunes at the MKM Stadium after arriving from FC Basel two years ago, with his final appearance before the loan deal seeing him net the winner at Coventry City in the Premier League after Hull's play-off success in May.
