These four players won't feature in this Wednesday's Premier League vs Championship EFL Cup clash

The EFL Cup continues this midweek, with 10 fourth-round places up for grabs, after six sides progressed last week.

There should have been seven teams progressing last week, though, with Everton's clash with Wolves initially scheduled to be played on September 9, before UEFA Champions League scheduling meant that the EFL had to move the cup tie to this coming Wednesday to avoid the Toffees and Liverpool playing at home on the same day.

Both sides have endured fine starts to the 2026/27 campaign. Everton are currently undefeated through five games in all competitions, but have drawn each of their last three.

Meanwhile, Wolves' return to the Championship has seen some rocky performances alongside others where their sheer quality has been enough to see them breeze past sides. They're in the play-offs after six games, with a game in hand over most of their divisional rivals.

Wednesday presents a good opportunity for Cesar Piexoto's side to test themselves against a Premier League outfit for the first time since their relegation back in May, while Everton will see the EFL Cup as a good way to bring European football to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It's set to be an intriguing clash, but these four players are set to miss out.

Christian Norgaard

New signing Christian Norgaard is yet to make his Everton debut after arriving from Arsenal for around £7 million.

The 32-year-old was a useful squad player for the Premier League champions, but before then, he was a key part of Brentford's rise from the Championship into becoming Premier League regulars. His return is something Toffees fans are looking forward to.

Unfortunately, Norgaard won't be seen in an Everton shirt until after the international break at the earliest, according to David Moyes in his press conference ahead of the goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Merlin Rohl

Merlin Rohl has been quite the utility player for David Moyes ever since he arrived at Everton on loan from Freiburg last summer.

After making his move permanent this summer, the German has been used at right-back at Hill Dickinson, as the Toffees still search for their Sheamus Coleman replacement.

He missed out against Spurs through injury, though, and while the extent of the issue is unknown, he may not be risked for the cup tie against Wolves.

Yerson Mosquera

As for WolvesCesar Piexoto stated ahead of the Sheffield United win on Sunday that, while certain players are back in individual training, it may be a little too early to see them back on the pitch.

Players such as Yerson Mosquera may therefore not be risked for a cup tie.

The Colombian went down with an ankle issue in the opening day draw against Blackburn Rovers, having started the first two games of the campaign.

Rafiki Said

And marquee £7.7 million summer signing Rafiki Said is still yet to make his Wolves debut, after suffering an MCL injury in pre-season.

The Wolves boss stated that the 26-year-old will start to be involved in training this week, but should still be quite short of fitness to make a return this coming Wednesday.

Said netted eight and assisted five for Belgian outfit Standard Liege last season.
