All the attention this weekend has been on Chelsea’s new signings Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian, and quite rightly so.
They both shone in Friday night’s friendly, and we expect more of the same this afternoon when we face AC Milan. But in a year’s time we will have seen plenty of them – and there will be an exciting new name on the horizon.

Geovany Quenda was signed back in the spring for £40m, and much like with Estevao, Chelsea fans are going to have to wait to see him.
He’s back on loan at Sporting for the season, where he came off the bench in their opening day win over Casa Pia. So while all attention is on our additions from this summer, the teenager can continue to develop where he is comfortable.
All eyes will be on Rui Borges, the Sporting coach who replaced Ruben Amorim, and is now tasked with coaching our young talent:
“This year, he’s doing very well. He just needs an opportunity, just like Geny Catamo. He’s been doing fantastically well, and he’ll have a great season,” Borges said.
Geny Catamo has the right wing slot locked down right now, and Sporting are not going to develop Chelsea’s player more than they need to, but Quenda is so good that they’re not going to ignore him just to spite us.
As well as keeping an eye on the new boys, it will be really interesting to see how Quenda gets on. Liam Twomey’s piece for the Athletic about him says that while some coaches have compared him to Bukayo Saka, Quenda looks more towards Lamine Yamal.
Either of those will do just fine, thank you very much…
