Sunderland are plotting summer additions after hitting 40 points with a win at Leeds earlier this month. Following last year’s eye-catching business, they hope to repeat it when this Premier League season ends.
According to Sunderland Echo, a side tipped for an instant drop have built a season few foresaw and now aim to strengthen again. The focus is on under-24 talents impressing around Europe.
Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic has shone at Hamburg with five in 24, and his parent club’s predicament could create openings. Girona full-back Arnau Martinez nears 200 games, is into his final 12 months and has interested Arsenal and West Ham.
Lecce’s Portugal Under-21 defender Tiago Gabriel, 33 outings since January 2025, has been linked with Tottenham and Newcastle as he approaches his deal’s final year. Lorient midfielder Arthur Avom, a 12-cap Cameroon international, is reportedly on Sunderland’s radar, with an expiring contract that carries a 12-month option. Chelsea are keen.
Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell, 23, has eight goals in 60 games since 2024 and has drawn West Ham interest despite a 2028 contract. Freiburg keeper Noah Atubolu has passed 100 appearances and enters his final year, a tidy contingency if needed.
Ajax’s 18-year-old Jorthy Mokio, already capped by Belgium after an early Gent breakthrough, has been linked with Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern. He is into his last contracted year and has been likened to N’Golo Kante and Declan Rice.
