€70m Arsenal star offers himself to Barcelona

Barcelona are running out of time to sign a new striker, especially now that Julian Alvarez has officially been ruled out as an option. They have been chasing the Argentina international for the entire summer, but with Atletico Madrid still not prepared to sell to a direct rival, the decision has been made to move on to other targets.

At this late stage of the summer, it will be difficult for Barcelona to get someone in the door that will perfectly align with Hansi Flick’s system. However, they have identified several candidates that could be good Alvarez alternatives, with Lautaro Martinez at the top of their list at this current moment in time.

In recent weeks, they have also been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres, who scored a slightly underwhelming 21 goals in 55 appearances last season. It’s now been reported by Victor Navarro that the Swedish striker is desperate to join Flick’s side, to the point that he’s been “offering himself daily” to the Catalan club.

Gyokeres is a proven goalscorer, but an ideal fit for Flick?

As far as the available options go, Gyokeres – who only joined Arsenal last summer for a fee above €70m – is arguably the best goalscorer that Barcelona could have at their disposal. He’s scored 118 goals over the last three seasons, and given that he would be presented with many chances if he played alongside the likes of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and co, there would be no surprise if he was prolific at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Furthermore, he is a penalty-box striker, which is something that Flick is looking for. However, there are question marks about his mobility, as well as his ability to lead the press – these are crucial components for a Barcelona striker in this era, so it can be said that Gyokeres would not be the best fit for the Catalans at this stage.
