Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste has confirmed that the club made an offer for Julian Alvarez, although he refused to provide any further details about the Argentine forward’s future.
Speaking to TV3 after Barcelona’s Joan Gamper Trophy appearance, Yuste was asked about the club’s pursuit of the Atletico Madrid striker.
Alvarez has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, but Atletico remain firm in their position that the Argentine is not for sale.
Reports have suggested that Alvarez wants to leave Atletico Madrid, while Barcelona continue to assess their options as they look to strengthen their attack.
However, Yuste was careful not to add further pressure to an already sensitive situation between two La Liga clubs.
Instead, the Barcelona vice-president stressed the importance of maintaining respect between the clubs and their respective executives.

Yuste avoided discussing Alvarez in detail, insisting that Barcelona should be careful when speaking publicly about a player who remains under contract with Atletico Madrid.
The Barcelona executive also pointed to the strong relationship between the two clubs.
“I don’t like to talk about players who aren’t ours. We’ve had a very good relationship with Miguel Ángel Gil and President Cerezo for years and years, and so these are things that I would say are part and parcel of football.
“We must maintain decorum and let common sense prevail,” said Yuste, as per Mundo Deportivo.
His comments did not clarify whether Barcelona’s previous offer for Alvarez remains active or whether the club is preparing another approach.
However, Yuste then confirmed that Barcelona had indeed made a proposal for the Argentine forward.

“We made an offer and that’s that. We must focus entirely on what Hansi said recently: that we have a match on Sunday and we have to go out and win it.
“There are 38 matches in La Liga and each one is worth three points, so we’re fully focused on trying to secure our first win,” added Yuste.
Yuste also discussed Barcelona’s transfer plans and made it clear that the club could still strengthen the squad before the window closes.
Yuste praised the work being carried out by the club’s sporting department, led by Deco, during the deal to sign Rodri, while also mentioning Bojan and Alejandro Echeverría.
“We have a great technical team, with Deco, Bojan and Alejandro Echeverría, who is also doing an exceptional job, and the transfer window is still open.
“There are still a few days left and we’re working hard every day to be in the running wherever we need to be,” concluded Yuste.
