The Hammers seemed to showcase for the first time exactly why they're to be feared in this division, with the numerous attacking talents on display netting all different types of goals in the 4-2 win.

Now, the expectation is for the momentum to carry ahead into the next game against a Derby County side buoyed by their first win of the season on Tuesday against Portsmouth.

The Rams have started slowly out of the blocks following last season's eighth-placed finish, but John Eustace has had to navigate some pretty high-profile injuries thus far.

Here are the eight players who won't be available for either team in Saturday's battle at the London Stadium.

Alphonse Areola

The future of Alphonse Areola has been up in the air ever since the final whistle blew against Leeds United in West Ham's final Premier League game back in May. It still is, in some ways, with some foreign transfer windows still open.

At the moment, though, the 33-year-old's absence is down to a minor calf injury, rather than any move being forced through. Areola was set to play in the EFL Cup second-round win against Southampton before dropping out on the day.

Tomas Soucek

Tomas Soucek is still in the process of recovering from the ankle ligament injury which saw him stretchered off in Czechia's final World Cup group stage match-up against Mexico at this past summer's tournament in what was his 93rd cap for his nation.

The well-liked 31-year-old expressed his desire to say at the London Stadium immediately following relegation, and will give the Hammers a much-needed boost in midfield upon his return.

Craig Forsyth

Derby's injury list grew in midweek after veteran left-back Craig Forsyth had to be helped off the field after 80 minutes in the win over Portsmouth.

Following the game, Rams boss John Eustace said, "It doesn't look good. I mean, he's not very comfortable down in the dressing room at the moment."

And, in an unfortunate update, he's set to be out for at least two months after damaging his knee.

Carlton Morris

Carlton Morris has missed the last two games and will be set to miss the next two as well, as he recovers from a calf injury he sustained in the draw with Cardiff City.

The 30-year-old netted in that 2-2 draw and provided the assist for Sammie Szmodics' opener against Charlton Athletic on opening day.

Lewis Travis

Captain Lewis Travis missed the midweek win at Portsmouth after suffering a knock during the defeat against Swansea City last weekend.

In more positive news, the scan returned better-than-expected results, but the 28-year-old will still be set to miss between four and five weeks of action.

Derry Murkin

Derry Murkin is still sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury ahead of an under-21s clash against Hull City, which he was involved in to build fitness after a longer-term absence.

Indeed, the 27-year-old hasn't featured since April after having to undergo minor back surgery.

He'll now be out for around four months with that hamstring issue.

Influential defender Matt Clarke came off at half-time in the EFL Cup defeat to Lincoln City last month with a calf injury, which will see him out until around November.

The 29-year-old only missed one game last season due to suspension, and his absence has been a big blow so far this year.

Patrick Agyemang
