There have recently been several reports suggesting that FC Bayern might sell five percent of its stake in Viessmann—for the hefty sum of 250 million euros.
It’s not yet clear whether this will actually happen. These reports made headlines across Germany, partly due to the sheer size of a potential deal.
Now, CEO Max Viessmann has commented on the matter and left open the possibility of his company getting involved.
“Out of respect for FC Bayern alone, I won’t comment on that,” he told the Handelsblatt.
He therefore does not want to make a clear statement regarding negotiations that may be underway. That could be a tactical move, but it doesn’t have to be.
“I’m personally a big Bayern Munich fan—that’s true. Since early 2026, I’ve been a member of the club’s administrative advisory board, which, in addition to soccer, also oversees recreational sports and advises the executive committee. I enjoy contributing my perspective as a family business owner there,” Viessmann added. At the very least, that doesn’t sound like a clear denial.

According to information from Merkur, there have recently been renewed discussions, and the general terms have largely been clarified.
In an interview with the Handelsblatt, Viessmann was also asked what added value a family-owned business can actually offer as an investor in the sports sector. “Being a shareholder is a much stronger commitment than mere sponsorship, which can change from year to year,” he replied. Bayern’s leadership will be happy to hear these words.
According to current media reports, there is no timeline. Talks are ongoing, and once all parties reach an agreement, a deal will be announced. Of course, a deal of this magnitude can always fall through.
