Following a run of 8 defeats in their past 11 games, it is clear that Manchester City need to strengthen their squad. Pep Guardiola’s squad is currently running on fumes as a host of issues have caught up to them. The January transfer window is just over two weeks away from opening. It is looming as a critical juncture in Manchester City’s season. Now a familiar name has been linked with a January move to the world champions. That player is Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. But is he the player that Manchester City need right now?

Harry Pratt has reported for the Daily Star that Manchester City have an interest in signing Joshua Kimmich. Furthermore, Pratt reports that the German international may be available for £10 million. Pratt goes on to report that with Kimmich’s contract being set to expire at the end of the season, he could be available for a cut-price fee. Lastly, Pratt adds that Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of the player he managed at Bayern Munich.

Is Joshua Kimmich the player Manchester City needs right now, or should they target a younger player?

No doubt adding a player with the quality and pedigree of Joshua Kimmich would benefit Pep Guardiola’s squad. The German international is a proven player and has had a strong season with Bayern Munich. He has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season for Bayern Munich playing primarily in midfield for Vincent Kompany’s side. Kimmich can also step at right-back if required which would be of huge benefit to Manchester City.

But is Joshua Kimmich the right player for Manchester City to target or is he a band-aid solution? Kimmich is set to turn 30 in February and the world champions have a host of players aged 30 or over. Do they need another older player or should they look to target younger players next month? A rebuild of Manchester City’s squad is coming so perhaps they need to look at other options next month. That answer will reveal itself next month, but it is a topic to ponder.

Joshua Kimmich could prove to be shrewd signing if Manchester City did move for him next month. But perhaps City need to add a younger player instead of the German international as they look to kickstart their rebuild next month. That’s the only question mark that surrounds a potential City move for Joshua Kimmich.
