As soon as you enter the sports bar, the block of supporters in Black & Yellow catches the eye: fans in jerseys and scarves sit at tables and chat animatedly – mostly about football and BVB. Drinks are in front of them, and many have already eaten. When Emre Can and Julian Brandt come through the door, they are greeted with applause. Shortly afterwards, they mingle with the fans, take their seats at the tables and immediately engage in conversations about BVB and the training camp, but also about other topics such as the FIFA Club World Cup and the Champions League.

Julian Brandt even gets to test his language skills with two members of the BVB fan club from Barcelona. “With my broken Spanish, I was actually able to exchange two or three sentences with them,” explains the midfielder. “It’s interesting to hear from the fans in general how they are doing and how they perceive things. Of course, they also have questions, which we are happy to answer. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere and it’s fun.” The footballer also uses the opportunity to get to know the fans’ point of view: “In this fast-paced world of football, it’s sometimes easy to lose sight of the other side – what’s going on in the minds of the fans. The people here are very inquisitive and curious. Of course, I also asked a question or two, so I learned something new. That’s good for all of us.”

Once all the questions have been answered, Can and Brandt move to the next table so that all the fans can chat with the players. At the end, everyone is positive. “The evening was absolutely fantastic. It was my first time at an event like this and it was really moving. I had goosebumps,” says BVB fan Birgit from Langgöns. Steve from Dresden is in Marbella for the third time to accompany the team: “Emre and Jule talked to us in a really relaxed manner, told us about the training camp and how they feel here in Marbella with the fans. I thought it was great.”

Emre Can also took a lot from the evening: “You get to know the fans and chat with them here. It’s amazing what they do for us. We are grateful for that. It’s a wonderful evening.”Christina Reinke
