The 39-year-old was appointed by the Blues following their relegation to League One.

Davies is taking on his first role as a manager, having previously worked as a coach under esteemed coaches such as Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou.

The young coach has worked as an assistant at Swansea City, Liverpool, Celtic, Leicester City, and Tottenham Hotspur.

His task will be to bring the Midlands outfit back to the Championship at the first attempt, with it being reported that Birmingham will have up to £20 million to spend in the summer transfer window.

Yorke has revealed his excitement at the appointment of Davies by Birmingham and is hopeful he can bring a similar style of play to his former club as Postecoglou.

However, he has issued a warning regarding the coach’s lack of experience as the main man.

“I'm happy Chris Davies has been given the opportunity at Birmingham City because he's a gamble,” said Yorke, via Best Online Poker Sites.

“Ange Postecoglou obviously plays great football at Tottenham and if Davies can bring any of that to Birmingham City, then they may have a better season than last.

“But, Davies has not been a manager, only an assistant, so it's hard to predict what will come for it."

Birmingham endured a difficult final year in the Championship, coming 22nd in the table just 12 months after the ownership changed hands.

American businessman Tom Wagner has put plans in place for a lot of development to be done on the club’s infrastructure, including a new stadium.

However, he has struggled with overseeing the success of the first team squad, with five different coaches taking charge of the team during the league season.

Birmingham will now compete in the third tier of English football for the first time since 1995.

Birmingham transfer plans

With the summer window now open, Birmingham have been linked with moves to improve their first team squad.

This includes reports suggesting the Blues are eyeing the likes of Burnley’s Bailey Peacock-Farrell, as well as Brighton’s Marc Leonard.

Davies will be hoping that he can strengthen the team enough to compete for a top two spot in League One immediately.

Promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt will be key to Wagner’s ambitious long-term plans for the club, putting pressure on Davies to perform straight away.

Davies is an exciting appointment by Birmingham

The template a lot of clubs will be hoping to follow now is Ipswich Town’s appointment of Kieran McKenna, and there are obvious parallels between the Northern Irishman and Davies.

The pair both worked as assistants at high-profile clubs before making the leap into management at a League One level.

If Davies can bring in a style of play similar to Postecoglou or Rodgers then Birmingham supporters will have every reason to be excited.

The fact he will be backed in the summer market so heavily also leads many to expect the Blues to be favourites for automatic promotion next season, which will come with a lot of pressure.
