A Hugo Ekitiké departure from Eintracht Frankfurt still a long way off

Kicker reports that despite interest from plenty of clubs, a departure of striker Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt is still a long way off.

Several clubs from the Premier League are interested in the 23-year-old, but the high asking price suggests it will take a while for a potential deal to materialise. All signs currently suggest that Ekitiké will be a part of Frankfurt’s pre-season training, which starts next week.

The situation is very similar to that of Randal Kolo Muani, who left Frankfurt right at the end of the 2023 summer transfer window.

When it comes to incomings, Frankfurt are still confident that it can get a deal done for Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt, but there is still a difference in the valuations between the two clubs.

Die Adler are also waiting for a decision on Ritsu Doan. The Japanese international has still not given a signal to Frankfurt to begin negotiations with Freiburg. What may work in Frankfurt’s favour is the fact that Freiburg are interested in striker Igor Matanovic. The Croatian has struggled for playing time since returning from his loan at Karlsruher SC.

If Ekitike and Matanovic do leave, this could open the door for another striker. Union Saint-Gilloise’s Franjo Ivanovic may become a target. The 21-year-olds are not as serious a target as first reported, but could be further down the line.
