Bryan Zaragoza caused a stir during his introduction at Espanyol Barcelona with a cryptic statement about his time at FC Bayern. The Spaniard apparently hinted that there are things about his time in Munich that he would rather not discuss.

Zaragoza transferred from Granada to the German record champions in the winter of 2024. However, the attacking player never managed to establish himself at FC Bayern. In total, the now 24-year-old played only seven Bundesliga games for the Munich club.

Zaragoza was subsequently loaned out several times. A loan to Osasuna was followed by stints at Celta Vigo and AS Roma. Now the Spaniard is heading to Espanyol—marking his fourth loan since joining Bayern.

At his introductory press conference in Barcelona, Zaragoza looked back on his career so far. The Spaniard began by speaking candidly about his return to Spain.

“Nowhere else do I feel the way I do in Spain,” Zaragoza explained. Shortly afterward, he seemed to want to address his time at FC Bayern—but stopped himself.

“And in the end… it’s better if I don’t say anything about that,” said the 24-year-old. Zaragoza left open exactly what he meant by this. Whether he was referring to internal processes, his playing situation, or personal experiences with the record-breaking champions remains unclear.

What is clear, however, is that looking back, the Spaniard did not find his time in Munich easy: “It wasn’t easy for me. I was 21 years old at the time, had never been away from home before, and moved straight to one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Zaragoza explained.

Zaragoza is looking for stability

A new chapter is now set to begin at Espanyol. After having to change clubs repeatedly in recent years, Zaragoza is longing above all for consistency.

“I need stability and need to spend time at just one club. Espanyol is ideal for that,” the forward emphasized.

At the same time, he made it clear that he wants to join his new club without feeling too much pressure: “I’m very happy to be where I want to be. I don’t feel any pressure. I’m here to do my job and give my all for Espanyol.”

FC Bayern had previously informed Zaragoza that he no longer played a role in Vincent Kompany’s plans. The current deal with Espanyol includes a purchase option of 8.5 million euros, which can become mandatory under certain conditions—including, among other things, a specific number of appearances.

Whether Zaragoza can truly turn the page on his Bayern chapter after his time in Munich remains to be seen in Barcelona. His cryptic statement, however, suggests that the Spaniard’s departure from the record champions wasn’t driven solely by athletic reasons.
