The right-back position at Manchester City has long seemed to be one position that they’ll look to strengthen in 2026. Whether or not that is in the January transfer window or next summer it seems certain that a right-back will arrive at the Etihad. Now a new right-back target has seemingly emerged for City. Feyenoord’s impressive young right-back Givairo Read is the latest player to be named as a potential target for Manchester City. The Dutch defender is one of the more impressive young right-backs in Europe. It is easy to see why City would be interested in signing the impressive young full-back.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City is now monitoring the progress of Givairo Read. The young right-back has impressed at Feyenoord since bursting onto the scene for their first team. Furthermore, Romano reports that Bayern Munich is also interested in signing Read. The Bundesliga champions have previously held talks with Givairo Read’s camp Romano reports.

It is easy to see why Givairo Read is attracting interest from clubs such as Manchester City and Bayern Munich. The 19-year-old has risen quickly through the ranks at FC Voldendam and established himself at Feyenoord. His superb play has seen him cement himself as one of the brightest young right-back prospects in Europe.
Givairo Read is blessed with all of the technical ability that perfectly sums up Dutch players. He is an attacking weapon who delivers quality crosses into the area and he has a wide array of passing which means he can play as an overlapping or an inverted full-back. That versatility would appeal to City. Read’s vision when in possession is superb and he does have the ability to split open a defence with his passing. Technically, Read has the attributes required to slot into a Pep Guardiola side.
Defensively, Givairo Read has the attributes required to become an elite right-back in time. He is quick, which means he can cover the pitch well when getting forward and can get back quickly when Feyenoord loses possession. Read reads the game exceptionally well, and he knows when to get forward and stay back. Physically, Givairo Read only stands at 175 centre metres tall, so he isn’t blessed with tremendous size. But his pace, ability to time a challenge and read the game cover his small stature.
All told, Givairo Read fits the bill to slot into a Pep Guardiola team. His technical ability is superb and he is young enough to play a role now and improve in the future. It is easy to see how he’d slot into the City squad. If Nathan Ake were to leave City, the assumption would be that Abdukodir Khusanov would play at centre-back, Givairo Read would be a back up to Matheus Nunes and that would give City a right-back who can contribute now and look to become Manchester City’s first-choice right-back in time.
