Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Omar Marmoush reflect on the 3-3 draw with Bayern Munich.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “It was a spirited point against a very, very strong team. Bayern switched into “big game mode”. They were composed on the ball, versatile and never let us settle. We were highly effective in transition and got our just rewards. It’s a sign of our character that we never gave up and stayed in the game. It’s an important statement, one that shows we’re always capable of fighting back. The atmosphere was exceptional.”
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We knew we’d have to suffer a lot against a superbly organised Bayern side, and that proved to be the case. We spent too much time in a low block for my liking, but that was also down to Bayern’s quality. The chances we had were put away with incredible quality and pace. I’m very proud of my team for getting a point against a team as sensational as Bayern. We want to stay hungry – the character in the squad is unbelievable.”
Omar Marmoush: “We did very well as a team and delivered a good performance on the pitch, both offensively and defensively. We defended as a team and were clinical in front of goal. We didn’t have many chances, but we put away almost all of them. We’re pleased with the point. I wouldn’t have scored the goals without the team’s hard work. We’re like a family.”
