Eintracht Frankfurt are currently enjoying their best start to a Bundesliga season since 2012/13, with 12 points on the board from the first five matchdays. Indeed, since the 2-0 opening defeat against Borussia Dortmund, the Eagles have won all four of their subsequent league assignments. The last time the team enjoyed such a sequence was in February 2021. Victory on Sunday would lift Eintracht to the Bundesliga summit on 15 points from six games – but current leaders Bayern arrive boasting an impressive away record.

League table and form

With nine points and a goal difference of +11, Vincent Kompany’s men have the best return in Bundesliga history after three games on the road. Incidentally, Eintracht held the previous best mark of nine points and a +10 goal difference, set in the 1993/94 campaign.

Looking back

The Eagles have been something of a bogey team for Bayern in recent years. The Bavarians have lost more games in Frankfurt (24) than they have against any other team. In fact, the most recent meeting at Deutsche Bank Park in December 2023 is still fresh in the memory of Eintracht fans, as Frankfurt inflicted Bayern’s first defeat of the season in a 5-1 victory.

Marmoush hunting records

Omar Marmoush has been spearheading Eintracht’s charge this season. Not only has the forward found the net in four consecutive Bundesliga matches, his tally of six league goals after the first five games of a league campaign is a new club record. The Egyptian also played a leading role in that 5-1 win over Bayern in December with a goal and two assists. “The win over Besiktas will lift us and give us self-confidence,” said head coach Dino Toppmöller.
