After signing from Royal Antwerp in January, QPR fans will be hoping that Michael Frey enjoys a more successful 24/25 campaign after a somewhat disappointing start to life at Loftus Road.

The Swiss striker played nine times for the Hoops, scoring once, but started just four games and his opening couple of months in English football were hampered by injuries.

It wasn't an ideal start to life in West London for the 29-year-old, but Frey will be hoping that with a full pre-season and his injury woes behind him, he'll be able to replicate his form with previous clubs at the Hoops.

The former Switzerland age-grade star has a deal with QPR until the summer of 2025, so it's an important season for him as he looks to earn a new deal and extend his stay at Loftus Road.

Football League World's QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, hopes that Frey will show why the club signed him during the upcoming season, and believes that whilst he may not be first choice, he could still chip in with a few goals.

Louis said: “With Frey it’s a weird one because he hasn’t started a lot, and he just didn’t look totally fit.

“I was thinking towards the end of last season, if he has a full pre-season under his belt, will we see the best of him? You look at his past experience at other clubs and all of his goals come from inside the box.

“If the service is better to him, he’s not going to be our starting striker, but I do think he’s got a place in the squad, but I’m expecting to see better from him and I do believe he could chip in with a few goals. “He can’t be as bad as he looked last season and with a full pre-season behind him, he could not be a bad option to have in the squad.

"I’m hopeful he will improve, but if he doesn’t, then you look at it as someone who hasn’t worked out, and we’ll try and move him on if we can."

Michael Frey has shown what he's capable of elsewhere

Frey was signed from Belgian Pro League outfit Royal Antwerp, and he had an impressive scoring record there, scoring 33 times in 69 games, showing he knows where the back of the net is.

In Frey's defence, when he joined QPR he was coming off the back of a bad ankle injury, and he hadn't played since the end of the 2022/23 season, perhaps explaining why he didn't look fit.

After being out for so long, it was perhaps unrealistic to hope that Frey would hit the ground running at QPR, with moving to a new club being difficult enough without being in the process of recovering from an injury.

As you can see above, Frey is certainly able to score goals, and QPR will be hoping he's over his previous injury woes when he returns to the club for pre-season training.

The Swiss striker may not be the quickest in the world, but he's a good finisher, and he could play an important role off the bench for Marti Cifuentes' side next season.
