A young Kaizer Chiefs player is expected to leave the team soon!
A period of transition appears imminent for Kaizer Chiefs' attacking line, with several young talents poised for departure as the club plans its next moves in the transfer market. Among them is a promising striker whose journey has taken an unexpected turn.
Camrin Smit, a player once heralded within the Chiefs' youth setup for his explosive start, now seems destined to continue his career elsewhere. The 19-year-old, who joined the Kaizer Chiefs U17 side at the beginning of 2023, immediately made a powerful impression. As noted by Football Stage, "Camrin Smit (2006) joined Kaizer Chiefs U17 at the beginning of 2023 and started his career at Amakhosi like a house on fire. Seven games, five goals, five assists."
However, his promising trajectory was abruptly halted by a severe Achilles injury that sidelined him for 13 months. His recent return to the pitch was marked by a compelling statement—a brace that signaled his enduring talent and reignited interest in his potential. His physical prowess and clinical finishing have even sparked informal comparisons to Manchester City's Erling Haaland, earning him the nickname 'Haaland' among followers.
Despite this successful comeback and his highly-regarded status, Smit's path has diverged from Naturena. Reports now confirm his next steps lie with the academy of Motsepe Foundation Championship side Midlands Wanderers. GOAL reported, "19-year-old striker Camrin 'Haaland' Smit is now with Motsepe Foundation Championship club Midlands Wanderers’ academy side," adding that "Smit marked his return from a long-term injury with a goal during Chiefs’ Under-19 Gauteng Development League match against Kathorus Hyper Academy three months ago."
His anticipated exit underscores a broader narrative at Kaizer Chiefs. While the club is renowned for cultivating some of South Africa's most exciting young attackers, retaining this wealth of emerging talent is becoming an increasing challenge, setting the stage for a significant squad reshuffle in the near future.
