The Premiership title run-in will enter the split phase this weekend, with Rangers set to host Motherwell on Sunday afternoon. They remain a point behind Hearts, but the league leaders would be under immense pressure to retain the top-of-the-table status, as they will clash heads with Hibernian in the Edinburgh derby later in the evening at Easter Road.

The Well have been exquisite under Jens Berthel Askou, as they fight for a place in Europe. Their previous meeting finished all square at Fir Park, but the Light Blues snatched an edgy 1-0 home win, thanks to Thelo Aasgaard’s second-half goal back in December.

Defence

Despite conceding thrice in a nine-goal thriller against Falkirk, Rangers hold one of the best defensive records in the league, thanks to James Butland’s presence between the sticks. Although it remains to be seen whether the club extend his stay beyond this campaign, the veteran Englishman must maintain his strong run and help the Gers conquer the coveted crown.

Skipper James Tavernier has decided to leave Rangers at the end of the season, bringing an end to an eventful 11-year spell. Danny Rohl should stick with him for the remaining fixtures, even though Max Aarons and Dujon Sterling are there as able alternatives down the right. Nasser Djiga has lately replaced John Souttar as the preferred central defensive option alongside Emmanuel Fernandez. Meanwhile, Tuur Roomens’ return to the team training is a major boost for the Light Blues, as the Belgian has been a standout since his January move. The left fullback is expected to replace Jayden Meghoma in the starting XI.

Midfield

Both Tochi Chukwuani and Nicolas Raskin found the net against Falkirk while featuring as the ‘double pivot’ deep down the midfield. Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron are also there, but could only be deployed as second-half substitutes.

Ryan Naderi’s season-ending injury has presented an opportunity for Aasgaard to flourish as an advanced playmaker. Andreas Skov Olsen is being carefully assessed due to recurring fitness issues; however, Mikey Moore should recover in time to retain his left-wing role. Djeidi Gassama must exhibit his flair and finesse from the right, with Oliver Antman and Nedim Bajrami likely to be involved from the bench to add more firepower in and around the attacking third.

Attack

A brace against the Bairns further cements Youssef Chermiti’s place as the first-choice centre-forward. Bojan Miovski is in flying form, as he also scored twice since being introduced as a half-time substitute in the previous gameweek. The North Macedonian ‘number 9’ might once again threaten as a ‘super sub’ with his poaching attribute.
