Abdou Diallo on his PSG future: “It’s possible that I’ll leave.” | OneFootball

Having left Leipzig at the end of his loan deal last month to return to Paris Saint-Germain, Abdou Diallo faces an uncertain future in the French capital.

The Bundesliga side opted against making the Senegalese international defender’s move permanent following a middling season – his playing time was limited to just 15 games on his return to Germany due to a knee injury. The highlight of his year will have been a World Cup campaign with Senegal.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 champions back in 2019 from Borussia Dortmund, remains under contract until the end of next season.

In an interview with Le Parisien, the centre-back has recognised that his time with PSG may be coming to an end. On the prsopect of finding himself on an “undesirables” shortlist, similar to the one that was drafted up last summer, Diallo is confident that a solution can be found with PSG:

“I’m going to have discussions with the club, and we’ll see what happens. As a football player, you know [being transfer listed] can happen. I’m not here to say whether that’s good or bad. I wasn’t part of that shortlist last year as there was no need for it. I could have stayed at PSG, but I wanted to stay for better, and not for worse. That’s still how I’m seeing things right now, and that’s how it should be. Out of respect and love for the club.”

“I have a year left on my contract, so either I’ll extend or I’ll leave. To be honest, it’s possible that I’ll leave. Those discussions will take place soon.”

Diallo adds that he would nevertheless be open to stay should he be a part of new manager Luis Enrique’s plans. He also does not rule out the prospect of going to Saudi Arabia – as his international teammates Édouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly have done this summer.
