Abdoulaye Camara, captain of France under-19s and a 17-year-old defensive midfielder at Udinese, is expected to join Ajax Amsterdam on loan with an almost mandatory €15 million buy option.

According to L'Équipe, the clubs have agreed a deal after weeks of negotiations, with the clause becoming automatic under certain conditions during the season.

Udinese signed Camara last summer for €1.2 million from Montpellier, where Jean-Louis Gasset had promoted him to the senior squad. The move would represent a substantial profit for the Italian club.

Camara has been authorised to travel to the Netherlands for a medical, a precursor to signing a contract that would run until 2031 once the option is triggered.

He made his senior debut in May with a Serie A appearance against Cremonese that finished 0-1. He trained throughout the campaign with the first team and was often named on the league bench.

The Marseille-born midfielder also featured extensively for Udinese’s Primavera side, which he captained. A switch to Ajax would mark the next step in his rapid rise.
