Abdul Abdulmalik has completed a move from National League side Boreham Wood to Swedish club Djurgardens after a breakout season of 17 goals and 10 assists.

L'Équipe reports that the Stockholm side, Conference League semi-finalists in 2024 and fifth in 2025, made the 23-year-old left winger a priority on the flank, with an initial £1 million bid turned down.

London-born Abdulmalik spent two seasons at Boreham Wood after youth spells with Fulham and Millwall. He starred at Wembley in the promotion final against Rochdale, involved in both goals before a 2-2 draw and a 5-3 shootout defeat.

After Wembley, chairman Danny Hunter told player representatives the club had ambitions and were not looking to sell key players at any price, rejecting a second Djurgardens offer.

Abdulmalik voiced frustration on Instagram, saying opportunities of this scale are rare in the National League and that he was ready for a new challenge.

A brief strike by the player and an improved proposal eventually unlocked the transfer, confirmed by Boreham Wood on Sunday. He has signed until 2029 and has been handed the number 10 shirt.

The fee is £1.75 million, about €2 million, a record sale for a National League club. The previous mark was Jamie Vardy’s £1 million move from Fleetwood Town to Leicester. He is one of few non-Scandinavian players in a Djurgardens squad currently third in Sweden.
