Galatasaray board member Abdullah Kavukçu set a Champions League target after the club sealed a 26th league crown. According to Turkish-Football.com, he used Sunday’s celebrations to say Europe is now the priority.
He framed domestic dominance as a platform for a wider project, noting consecutive titles in the 100th and 101st years. His message was unequivocal, he wants the Champions League to come to the club and to Türkiye, and insists the cup will enter the museum.
Galatasaray remain the only Turkish side to have lifted a major European trophy, the UEFA Cup in 2000. A Champions League triumph has so far eluded the country.
Kavukçu hinted at an aggressive summer, targeting the world-class depth needed to compete with Real Madrid and Manchester City under the revamped league-phase format. He said increased revenue from that format could underpin the push.
Talk persists of high-profile additions in defence and attack to strengthen the title-winning core. He also praised president Dursun Özbek for fostering a family ethos, which he credited for back-to-back domestic success.
The remarks further energised jubilant supporters in Istanbul during the celebrations. With the Champions League draw due in late August, attention now turns to whether recruitment matches the rhetoric.
