Abel Ferreira banned for two games after kicking microphone, misses Botafogo and São Paulo | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, the STJD voted on Friday to hand Palmeiras head coach Abel Ferreira a two-match suspension for kicking a microphone during the draw with Mirassol in the 25th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

He will miss the Série A fixtures against Botafogo and São Paulo on 6 and 12 September. Palmeiras will appeal and seek a suspensive effect.

Referee João Vitor Gobi, fourth official Roger Goulart and VAR Ilbert Estevam da Silva, reported for failing to sanction Abel, were acquitted after the complaint was ruled inept.

In the hearing, Gobi told auditors he did not see the kick before being excused, and internal VAR footage was then shown. The officials’ defence said the incident was not seen, and the panel deemed the case against them hypothetical.

Palmeiras counsel Osvaldo Sestário asked for the charge to be dismissed or for any ban to be converted into a fine. He argued the referee assumed responsibility for the incident and judged it not punishable.

Auditor George Suetônio Gonet Branco voted for acquittal, José Maria Philomeno backed a one-match ban, and Pedro Gonet Branco supported suspension, citing repeat offence. He referenced a refereeing commission letter that said VAR could not recommend review as the incident did not affect play or involve a player. Auditor Rodrigo Buzzi agreed, and the third Disciplinary Commission chair confirmed the sanction.
