Abel Ferreira says Paulinho’s latest setback is a muscular problem and not connected to his earlier right-leg fractures, adding that the forward’s eagerness to justify the investment played a part. He believes that once recovered the attacker will help the team.

Paulinho started for the first time in 441 days on 26 July against Atlético-MG, when he sprained his left ankle. He was then prepared to feature the following weekend against Fortaleza in the Copa do Brasil.

Before that tie he felt pain in his right adductor and missed the knockout match. Tests confirmed the muscle injury, which is expected to sideline him for about two more weeks. The club had flagged a muscle risk during his return after a long spell out.

He previously underwent two surgeries to repair stress fractures in his right leg, the first in 2024 at Atlético-MG and the second at Palmeiras after a refracture last year. The club believes that underlying issue has been resolved, with focus now on his muscular recovery.

Abel urged patience and trust in the process, noting such injuries can occur after extended inactivity, and said the aim is to restore him as an option in the remaining months across all competitions.

Paulinho has missed 89 matches for Palmeiras due to physical problems. Signed for a little over R$ 115 million, he has 25 appearances, five goals and two assists.
