It was an eventful night in Dublin on Tuesday as 10-man Shamrock Rovers overcame Icelandic outfit VĂkingur ReykjavĂk to book their spot in the Champions League second qualifying round.
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, all was going swimmingly for Rovers when a Johnny Kenny brace put them 4-2 up on aggregate inside 20 minutes of the second leg.
But things threatened to unravel in the second half, when first the visitors pulled one back through Nikolaj Hansen, before Rovers were reduced to 10 men when Jack Byrne was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Then, in the 98th-minute, VĂkingur had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot and take the tie to extra-time. Hansen stepped up, and this is what happened.
Absolute scenes at Tallacht Stadium, and Rovers will now be rewarded with a tie against Sparta Prague in the next round.
