Portsmouth duo Abu Kamara and Adrian Segecic were among the players to wish Luke Brooke-Smith well after he suffered a serious ankle injury.

Abu Kamara and Adrian Segecic were among the Portsmouth players to wish Luke Brooke-Smith well after the winger suffered a dislocated ankle in training.

The New Zealand international only joined Pompey in the summer from Wellington Phoenix, and he has featured in three league games so far.

However, the 18-year-old is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, after it was confirmed that he had damaged his ankle in a ‘freak’ training ground incident.

And, taking to Instagram, Brooke-Smith sent an emotional message where he discussed the injury, as well as revealing there could be further complications as he awaits news on the full extent of the problem.

“No words with how I’m feeling right now… A freak incident in training causing me to dislocate my ankle, break Fibula and potential ligament damage. As I don’t know the severity yet I’m trying my best to stay positive in a really hard time for me. I will work my hardest to get back out on the pitch to play for this amazing club. Thank you to all the staff and players for getting around me.”

That is a major setback for the teenager, and for Pompey, and many of Brooke-Smith’s teammates were quick to show their support on social media.

Adrian Segecic sent a prayer hand emoji to the youngster, with Abu Kamara urging him to ‘stay strong’.

Terry Devlin, Marko Milovanovic and Marlon Pack were among several other players connected to Portsmouth to wish Brooke-Smith well after the setback, which gives an indication as to how he has been received in the dressing room since his move this summer.

This is obviously a huge setback for Brooke-Smith, and it’s a real shame for him that it has happened just weeks into his first season in English football.

But, these things happen in the game, and even though he may not have been through something like this before at this stage of his career, the road to recovery will help his mentality.

Brooke-Smith is sure to be glad for the support he has been shown by his teammates, and they will be there for him over the coming months as he looks to get back up to fitness.

Portsmouth will look to kick-on after mixed start to the 2026/27 season

This is also a blow for John Mousinho, as he doesn’t have the biggest squad to work with, and whilst he wouldn’t be relying on someone like Brooke-Smith, he had a role to play.

That was evident with the attacker having come on in the first few games, so he would’ve been used during what is a demanding Championship season.

But, again, that won’t be an excuse for Mousinho, as he knows these things are part and parcel of football, and it’s about finding the right formula to ensure Portsmouth can continue to pick up results as they look to push on and start climbing the table.
