Liverpool are being strongly linked with a move for Brentford forward Kevin Schade, with the 24-year-old increasingly viewed as a realistic option for the January window. According to TeamTalk, the Reds have “emerged as a genuine contender and one of the strong favourites” for the Germany international, in a development that speaks to both immediate need and longer-term squad planning at Anfield.
Schade has opened the season in eye-catching fashion, with “three goals in his opening five Premier League appearances” as Brentford have made an impressive start under Keith Andrews. That early form has only strengthened attention around a player already admired for his pace, direct running and tactical flexibility.
For Liverpool, the attraction is understandable. There are several areas in the squad that will require attention across the next two windows, but the right side of the attack stands out. The report makes the point clearly, “another big demand lies on the right side of the attack, and the failure to replace Mohamed Salah with a like-for-like replacement over the summer leaves Iraola with a problem to fix.” That is a significant line, and one that frames Schade’s appeal in straightforward terms.

Brentford remain in a strong position, but the contract situation is central to the growing noise. Schade is “now entering the final 18 months of his contract” and while the Bees are keen to keep him, there is also a commercial reality to manage. TeamTalk reports that Brentford “have already opened talks with his representatives” and that “improved wages are on the table as the club seeks to protect one of its most valuable assets.”
If fresh terms are not agreed, the market could move quickly. The key detail is that “a parting of ways cannot be ruled out” and that “a failure to agree terms on an extension in the coming weeks unlocks the possibility of a mid-season sale.” That sort of timeline naturally sharpens interest among elite clubs, especially those looking to act decisively in January rather than wait until summer.
Schade joined Brentford from Freiburg in 2023 for around £20 million, and his value has clearly risen since then. Brentford would be expected to seek a substantial profit, particularly given the scale of Premier League interest. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are all mentioned among the clubs monitoring the situation, while Manchester United are described as less prominent in the current picture.
The wider context at Liverpool matters here. The report states that the club, “now under the regime of new sporting director Julian Ward, are keen to make a big splash in January in a show of faith to their new man.” Whether that results in a move for Schade specifically remains to be seen, but it does suggest intent.
Andoni Iraola has started his Liverpool tenure with promise, but squad building is still ongoing. Full-back depth, midfield balance and attacking succession planning all sit high on the agenda. Schade’s profile speaks directly to one of those concerns because he can play across the front line, while being “more than comfortable and effective at performing off the right wing.”
That versatility is not a minor bonus. Liverpool need options who can adapt within matches and across a demanding fixture schedule. Schade offers width, acceleration and pressing intensity, all traits likely to appeal to a coach who values energy and aggression in the final third. TeamTalk adds that his “pace, work rate and ability to play on either flank or through the middle make him an attractive option for top clubs seeking depth in attack.”
There is a practical logic to this potential deal. Schade may often be associated with the left, but the report stresses his effectiveness from the opposite flank. For Liverpool, that matters more than anything. Recruitment at top clubs is often about role fit rather than reputation alone, and Schade appears to match a role that still needs clarity in this squad.
Brentford, of course, will want to hold their line. Their strong league position gives them every incentive to resist movement in mid-season, particularly with Andrews pushing for what the report describes as “an historical Champions League place.” If they remain competitive near the top end of the table, keeping one of their most dangerous attackers becomes even more important.
There is also the player’s rising profile to consider. His “recent start for Germany under Jürgen Klopp has only heightened his profile,” adding another layer of visibility to a transfer story already gathering pace. Liverpool may be among the frontrunners, but any hesitation could invite rival clubs to move.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, this is the kind of link that feels believable because it addresses a real tactical issue. Schade is not being mentioned simply because he is a good Premier League player. He is being discussed because there is a clear need on the right side and because he brings speed, power and adaptability, which are all valuable in Iraola’s system.
The most interesting part of the report is that Liverpool are seen as “one of the frontrunners for his signature.” That suggests genuine groundwork rather than casual admiration. If the club are serious about backing Iraola, this is exactly the profile they should be targeting, proven in England, still developing, and capable of improving the squad straight away.
There will be supporters who want a bigger name, and that reaction is understandable. But smart recruitment is often about the right fit at the right moment. Schade looks like a player who could arrive without needing months of adaptation. He can stretch games, attack space and contribute across multiple forward roles.
The obvious concern would be cost in January, especially with Brentford under no pressure to sell cheaply. Yet if contract talks stall, Liverpool may sense an opportunity to move before the market becomes even more crowded. On the face of it, this feels like a transfer worth watching very closely.
