Serie A leaders AC Milan will seek to go three points clear at the summit when they welcome Sassuolo to the San Siro on Sunday.
Both teams collected maximum points from their most recent outings and will head into this weekend’s meeting on a high.
Milan were close to suffering consecutive defeats for the first time this term as early goals from Nikola Vlasic and Duvan Zapata put Torino 2-0 up in Monday’s clash.
However, what followed was a huge testament to Milan’s title credentials, with Adrien Rabiot pulling one back in the 24th minute before Christian Pulisic netted a second-half double to turn the game on its head.
Albeit only on goal difference, Massimiliano Allegri’s men are top of the league in what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting title races in Serie A history.
Central to Milan’s title bid has been their form on home turf, where they have picked up 16 points from a possible 21. They are unbeaten since a shock 2-1 defeat to Cremonese on the opening weekend.
Milan will be wary of this weekend’s opponents, who have lost just one of their previous five league matches away at Milan.
Losing three of their first four matches, Sassuolo’s return to the top flight started on a rough note, but their form since then has propelled them into the top half.
They went behind for the fourth time in five matches in Saturday’s clash against Fiorentina, during which Crisitian Volpato, Tarik Muharemovic and Ismael Kone scored to complete an impressive turnaround.
After losing three straight away matches at the start of the campaign, Sunday’s visitors went unbeaten in the subsequent four before a 2-0 defeat to Como towards the back end of November.
Still haunted by a 6-1 defeat on their last trip to the San Siro to face Milan in a cup tie in December 2024, Sassuolo will be keen to give a better account of themselves this time around.
