Achraf Hakimi clinches the 2025 African Golden Lion!

Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi, right-back for Paris Saint-Germain, has been crowned the "Golden Lion" as Africa’s best player for 2025, in an annual award established in 2004 by Moroccan newspaper Al-Mountakhab.
The Atlas Lion seized this honor after a phenomenal season, playing a pivotal role in PSG’s maiden UEFA Champions League triumph.
Hakimi topped the votes from journalists, sports experts, and the public, finishing ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who came second, and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy, who placed third.
With this achievement, Hakimi becomes the first Moroccan player to win the Golden Lion two years in a row, having also claimed the title in 2024.
The record for most wins still belongs to Ivorian legend Didier Drogba, a four-time laureate (2005, 2006, 2007, and 2012).
