Manchester United’s need for midfield reinforcements is quite apparent.

Casemiro is set to leave and has made it categorically clear that he will not stay for another year. As things stand, INEOS is fine with the decision.

The co-owners also want to get rid of Manuel Ugarte, who was initially seen as the Brazilian‘s replacement but has failed to adapt to the rigours of the English game.

United are likely to target Premier League-proven stars to replace the duo, and Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Sandro Tonali are among the top targets.

Why Adam Wharton makes sense from United’s point of view

The Nottingham Forest ace looks to be on his way to noisy neighbours Manchester City, while the Brighton star’s drop-off in form means the 20-time English league champions are unlikely to spend big on him.

Whether Newcastle will agree to sell the Italian remains to be seen, but according to The Sun, Adam Wharton is preparing to leave Crystal Palace in the summer.

His ability to dictate tempo from deep and his vision are tailor-made for United’s midfield, but there are a lot of teams eyeing his signature.

The 22-year-old is keen to join a Champions League club, and under Michael Carrick, United seem to be heading in the right direction.

Adam Wharton price revealed

Samuel Luckhurst‘s report states that the Eagles will demand a fee between £60 million and £67.5 million, something the Old Trafford side should have little trouble offering.

“ADAM WHARTON expects to leave Crystal Palace this summer. Manchester United target Wharton believes he is ready to make the next step and wants to join a Champions League club.

“Palace have sold Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze in £60 million and £67.5m deals in the last two summers.

“Wharton, who is under contract until 2029, would likely command a similar fee with Premier League-proven midfielders in-demand.”

The only question mark is his lack of physicality, something United need in the middle of the park. Maybe, someone like Baleba could help unlock the full potential of Adam Wharton. The ball is in INEOS’ court.
