FC Bayern will have to do without Konrad Laimer at the last minute in today’s Bundesliga match against Union Berlin. The Austrian is sidelined due to a minor adductor injury. The absence comes as a particular surprise, as Vincent Kompany had reported just Thursday that the team’s roster situation was nearly perfect.
At the press conference ahead of the Union match, Kompany had stated that, in principle, all players were available to him. Two days later, however, there has been a change: Laimer is not in the lineup due to a minor adductor injury.
For Kompany, this last-minute absence is quite significant. Laimer could have been deployed on both the right and left sides of the defense, making him one of the most versatile players on the Bayern roster. Against Union, the coach will now have to do without this option on short notice.
Instead, Josip Stanisic will start at right back. It remains unclear how long Laimer will be sidelined.

On the field, the Munich team is looking to take the next step today. On the last Bundesliga matchday, Bayern secured a 2-1 victory over newly promoted SV Elversberg. Prior to that, the record champions got off to a successful start in the new Champions League season: Kompany’s team defeated Bodo/Glimt 5-1.
Now, Union Berlin awaits as their next challenge in the Bundesliga. Bayern enters the match as the favorite but must be prepared for a team that is likely to give them as little space as possible. For Kompany, the key will be to make the most of his squad’s flexibility despite Laimer’s last-minute absence.
The timing of the injury is particularly noteworthy. As recently as Thursday, Kompany had reported that all players were fit. Shortly before today’s kickoff, it’s now clear: the Bayern coach will still have to do without Laimer.
