Inter Milan have reached a personal agreement with Ademola Lookman and are now pushing ahead with a €40m offer to sign him from Atalanta.

The Nigerian forward has emerged as Inter’s top attacking priority for the summer, with sporting director Piero Ausilio identifying him as a dream addition to the squad.

Inter will make a non-negotiable €40m bid regardless of any player departures, hoping to take advantage of a promise Atalanta reportedly made to Lookman last year regarding a potential transfer.

However, Atalanta are demanding at least €50m and remain reluctant to lose their star forward, especially after the recent departure of long-time manager Gian Piero Gasperini to Roma.

Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph in 2023/24 and finished last season with 20 goals and seven assists across all competitions.

His ability to play across the frontline – as a winger, second striker or centre-forward – makes him a valuable asset, and Inter are determined to bring him to the San Siro.

Talks between the clubs remain active, but if Atalanta refuse to lower their demands, Inter may be forced to look elsewhere.

Fiorentina’s Nico Gonzalez and RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda are among the players on their shortlist, while Christopher Nkunku and Jadon Sancho have also been offered to them.

Despite the interest from other clubs, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, Inter are currently leading the race, with Lookman prioritising a move to the Serie A runners-up.

The 27-year-old’s future at Atalanta became less certain following Gasperini’s exit, and his representatives have made it clear that he is open to a new challenge.

Barcelona admire Lookman but are hindered by financial constraints, while Atletico are still considering their options despite agreeing a deal for Thiago Almada.

Inter have already signed Ange Yoan-Bonny and are keen to further bolster their attack, particularly with Marko Arnautovic leaving and Mehdi Taremi linked with a move away.
