Club Brugge held Atletico Madrid to a 3-3 draw in the UEFA Champions League knockout play-off first leg at Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Oblak had to be alert to preserve Atleti’s lead in the 19th minute, diving to his right to parry away Nicolo Tresoldi’s strike from close range.

Mamadou Diakhon squandered a golden chance to make it 1-1, drilling the ball wide from a promising position.

Atleti doubled their lead just before the break as Ademola Lookman guided Antoine Grizmann’s flicked header into an empty net.

Lookman is now the first Atleti player to score on his Champions League debut since Hector Herrera versus Juventus in September 2019.

The Nigerian is also the first to achieve that feat as a starter since Angel Correa versus Benfica in September 2015.

Onyedika halved Club Brugge’s deficit in the 51st minute, reacting quickly to put the ball into the net from close range.

Tresoldi made it 2-2 on the hour mark, guiding Diakhon’s low cross into the net.

The visitors went back ahead in the 79th minute when Joel Ordonez turned Marcos Llorente’s cross into his own net.

However, Christos Tzolis made it 3-3 late on, setting up an exciting second leg next Tuesday at the Metropolitano Stadium.
