Adi Hutter was sacked as manager of AS Monaco on Friday evening. The Austrian had spent over two years at the Principality club prior to his exit. Speaking to L’Équipe, he has reacted to the sacking.
The Austrian spent two full seasons at the Principality club, leading them to back-to-back UEFA Champions League qualifications. He leaves Les Monégasques fifth in Ligue 1, three points behind current leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Hutter was the first managerial appointment of the Thiago Scuro era at Monaco back in the summer of 2023. In his first season, he led the club to a second-place finish in Ligue 1. Juggling Champions League football last season, he then led them to a third-place finish.
However, by Hutter’s own admission, performances have been below expectations this season, even if the club have secured some good results, notably against RC Strasbourg Alsace. Last weekend’s 2-2 draw against OGC Nice proved to be the final straw for the Austrian.
“I will almost exclusively remember the positive things and the success from the past two years, during which we brought Monaco back to the top three in France and, after a long absence, had two consecutive campaigns in the Champions League,” began Hutter.
The Austrian added, “Sometimes, destinies separate, but I am handling it well. I am leaving behind a quality side that works well, with great individuals. I wish the management, the players, the staff and the club nothing but the best for the future.”
