Adson has reignited Vasco’s battle for the right flank, producing an assertive cameo after injury and strengthening his case in the win over São Paulo.

According to Globo.com, Renato Gaúcho’s changes proved decisive as Adson came off the bench and played a part in the turnaround goal, his strike from distance deflecting off Brenner before falling for Andrés Gómez. He also drove the team forward and later went close from range.

The coach praised his squad depth, saying he trusts and prepares everyone, and felt Tchê Tchê was too accepting of São Paulo’s marking. He introduced Adson, who he views as a natural in the role and a dribbler, adding that he likes that profile.

Adson downplayed the matter of starting, saying he is there to help in five or 90 minutes and that his approach never changes.

He said it had been too long without a league win and that cannot happen, particularly at home. He praised the supporters’ role in the comeback, added they must take their chances, and was happy to earn more minutes.

Competition for the position remains open. Nuno Moreira has struggled this season, Marino Hinestroza has yet to assume the expected influence after 13 games, and Rojas has not convinced on the right in recent outings. Adson is the one to have impressed most lately.

Vasco visit Paysandu in Belém on Tuesday in the Copa do Brasil, their debut in this year’s competition, with kick-off at 21:30, Brasília time.
