According to SuperDepor.com, the Argentine FA has appealed to FIFA against Leandro Paredes’ 10-match suspension after the World Cup final, seeking to reduce it to three so the midfielder could be available for the next international window.
Paredes’ situation with Argentina is nuanced, as the Boca midfielder had hinted he would assess his future. Lionel Scaloni has brought him into the AFA base in Ezeiza, which points towards him staying involved a while longer.
Three games is the minimum the AFA could target, with the punishment stemming from incidents involving Spain midfielder Gavi during the final. Thiago Almada received a one-match ban, due to be served tonight against Bolivia, while Nahuel Molina was given seven, three of which fall in this window.
If the appeal succeeds, Paredes would complete his sanction in fixtures against Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Benin over the coming days. The next FIFA window runs from 9 to 17 November, with opponents to be confirmed.
It is not yet known whether the AFA will also appeal for Nahuel Molina, the Roma right-back. In that role, Scaloni is backing Agustín Giay, with Gonzalo Montiel not called up for this window.
